How I Plan For A Winter Wardrobe Refresh (And How You Can Too)

Every season, my wardrobe goes through a transformation. The storage boxes come down, the closet opens up—and for a good few weeks (okay, a month—eek!) things live in limbo. Unpacking, editing, reassessing. Not everything gets packed away, just the pieces that are strongly season-specific or have earned a little break after a trend-heavy moment.

And every year, I rediscover beautiful pieces I’d completely forgotten about. That moment of re-finding? It’s not just joyful—it’s strategic. It’s how I start shaping my winter wardrobe wishlist.

Step One: Connect, Don’t Just Collect

My focus this year? Pieces that connect—items that build on what I already own. I’m after just a few key updates that will make this winter feel different from the last. That’s always my goal: to evolve, not overhaul.

In previous winters, I focused on my personal palette—green and coral red—and it worked beautifully. I built a capsule around those shades, and the impact was real: better cohesion, easier outfit planning, and a genuine sense of joy when getting dressed.

As I’ve matured, I’ve learned how much colour influences not just how I look, but how I feel. I’ve also made peace with the fact that black just isn’t for me in daylight. Charcoal grey? Yes. Milky tones and sand shades? Yes, please. They feel clean, modern, and allow a single pop of colour—like coral or mustard—to shine. Think Scandinavian styling: soft, layered neutrals with one bold twist.

What I’m Leaning On This Winter:

Denim Foundation:

  • Wide-leg jeans in blue (cropped + long)(Paige Denim)

  • Cropped straight-leg jeans, in charcoal
(Paige Denim fans, IYKYK. You’ll see mine on repeat in my reels—no apologies!)

  • Barrel leg jeans in white

Outerwear Energy:

  • Shearling & faux fur

  • Oversized coats (soft-shouldered, slightly rounded)

  • Trench coats (preferably cropped)

  • Bomber jackets (suede or woolly textures)

  • Mary-Janes and Ballet Pumps

  • No to belted puffers and shackets this year

Knits & Layers:

  • Matching knit or tracksuit sets (if flattering!)

  • Sweater dresses + boots (Still aspirational—depends how lazy I feel)

  • Light, warm layers in neutrals

  • Cashmere and textured jerseys

Style Sparks:

  • Animal print (Leopard, preferably dark-based)

  • Burgundy (Hello!)

  • Suede anything

Accessories That Elevate

This is where personality shines:

  • Printed scarves, especially silk scarves that demand to be grabbed

  • Groovy socks

  • A great hat or two

  • A belt that does the job and makes a statement

  • Mary-Janes and ballet pumps

  • (Bags deserve their own post—coming soon.)

Final Thoughts

Yes, this sounds like a long list—but in practice, most of it won’t pass the test. My budget is clear, my vision is in place, and my eye is trained. That’s the key: when you know your style, you can shop strategically—not reactively.

So as you prepare for winter, ask yourself: What will refresh your style this season? What do you want your wardrobe to say? The more intentional you are, the more stylish (and stress-free) your winter will be.

Tell me below what you are loving and what you are avoiding? It's always interesting to me.
